Attendance - You’ve got to be in it to win it!
Good school attendance is important for several reasons, not least that it has a positive impact on pupils’ attainment and wellbeing. An attendance summary will be sent to all families at the end of every half term. Wicor’s expectation is that pupils will strive to have an attendance of 96% or above. Please see our school day hours by clicking on the button below.
Punctuality
At Wicor the expectation is that all children are in class ready to learn by 8.45am when the register is taken. Our doors open at 8.35am to allow children time to settle themselves ready for the start of the school day.
To help ensure children's safety, our internal gates and the Quintrel Avenue side gate will be locked at 8.45, so there will be no direct access to the classrooms. Therefore, from 8.45am, pupils will need to access the school via the school office.
Any child who arrives between 8.45am and 8.55am will need to register at the school office and will be marked as 'late'.
Any child who arrives in school after 8.55am will need to register at the school office and will be marked as 'late after close of registration' and this is classed as an unauthorised absence unless the office receives a satisfactory explanation.
If the school has any concerns about a pattern of lates or absences, our Home School Link Worker will contact the family to share concerns and seek solutions to ensure the child can be punctual every day.
There is no general right to authorised absence for a family holiday. If you take your child out of school without permission the absence will be unauthorised; you may be issued a Penalty Notice, and the Local Authority may consider legal action.
Schools are only able to authorise absence from school in exceptional circumstances. In making a request for an authorised absence from school, you will need to explain why the circumstances are exceptional.
If you remove your child for an unauthorised period and it is the belief of the school and Local Authority that you have done this in a way as to avoid being issued a Penalty Notice, the Local Authority reserves the right to authorise the issuing of a Penalty Notice before the national threshold is met.
You are advised not to make any arrangements until your request has been considered and responded to.
If you need to make a request for a leave of absence from school, please email attendance@wicor.hants.sch.uk explaining why you are applying for an authorised absence and the circumstances which make your application exceptional; and therefore, the leave cannot be taken within the normal 13 weeks holiday your child has from school. If you are requesting authorisation to attend a specific event, please confirm the date of the event and explain your travel arrangements.
