Horticulture
Horticulture is an integral part of the school's environmental curriculum. Children love to plant things and watch them grow. At Wicor, our aim is to capitalise on all this learning power by providing a rich and inspiring environmental learning curriculum which encompasses natural history, environmental science and horticulture. Our children enjoy the fruits of their labour, whether it be a beautiful patch of flowers or a salad picked fresh from the school allotment. All the children work in the gardens at some stage whether it be tending the wildflower garden or digging on the allotment. Our Horticulturalist ensures that the children are given a high quality education and learn about the science which underpins this important subject. To find out more read our Learning Outdoors document.
On Tuesday 4th June 2024 some of our youngest and oldest pupils went to ‘green’ Southsea Castle, one of Henry VIII’s fortifications guarding the Solent on Southsea sea front. The children grew sensory plants (edible, scented or textured) as part of the curriculum and planted these at the castle, benefiting the visitors and supplying the café whilst helping the survival of many dwindling species.
With thanks to Lazy Susan for donating a new bench for our children to enjoy in our woodland area.
