2024 Happily Ever After? 1st place heat, Southern Final 1st place
In a land far, far away, we meet The Three Little Pigs. With the help of an AI device, they discover how they can create a stronger house to keep the mischievous wolves away. However, is it wise to rely on this modern technology? What would happen if the wolves gained control? Will they still live happily ever after?
2019 – Slaughtered for Scales 1st place heat, Southern Final 1st place
Pangolins are scaly anteaters that live in Africa. These enigmatic mammals eat thousands of termites a day. Pangolins are being hunted for their scales which are mistakenly believed to have powerful medicinal properties. They are shipped, dead or alive, to be traded in Asian street markets. Pangolins are the most trafficked animals in the world, facing extinction. We must act now!
2018 – Turn the Tide 1st place heat, Southern Final – 3rd place
Every minute humanity carelessly dumps a lorry load of plastic waste into our oceans. It chokes turtles, cetaceans, fish and seabirds. It contaminates the catch of the Polynesian fisher folk destroying their livelihoods. Only humanity can stop this destruction. Our dance is one that dares to inspire hope – hope that we can help turn the tide and save our magnificent seas.
2015 – Emperor for Eternity – 2nd place in the heat, Southern Final - 4th place
China’s first emperor, Chin, was once a mighty and wise ruler but absolute power corrupted his mind with an obsession to remain emperor for eternity. Books became ashes as drove scholars in the search for the elixir of immortality. The man did not cheat death but his might lives on guarded for eternity by his immortal terracotta army.
2014 Frozen by Fire – 1st place in the heat, Southern Final – 2nd place
The gods are angry. We fear for our lives. Clutching the letter, Pliny the Elder sets sail on a rescue mission as thousands of Roman citizens pray to their gods to be merciful. There’s a race for life as the distant rumblings of a smoking mountain sent out its deadly portent. A fire storm was on its way.
2013 – The Web of Dreams – 1st place
Native Americans believe that evil thrives in bad dreams, so they found a way of catching them. Their elders learned from the wise Iktomi, the spirit in spider form how to spin a web that would catch the bad dreams and let only the good dreams pass through. Tonight the power of the dream catcher lives on.
2012 – Cup of Life – 1st place plus award for Best Choreography and Set Design
For a group of Brazilian street urchins, it’s nothing but rats and rubbish until the airwaves crackle to life bringing a message of hope in the shape of a football. The street children’s World Cup, which has brought hope to the lives of ghetto children is now coming to weave its magic in Brazil. It’s time to celebrate!
2010 – The Magic Paintbrush – 3rd place
In this ancient Chinese tale, a powerful emperor learns of Shen’s magic brush and lusts after the riches it can paint him. He may be mighty but he has not reckoned on the power of the human spirit to resist evil and greed and Shen remains determined to only paint food and clothes for the poor and needy.
2009 – The Stolen Generation – 3rd place
Last century over 100,000 aboriginal children were wrenched from their families by the government to live as white Australians. Our dance follows three such children who defied their captors and escaped back home with only a rabbit-proof fence to follow. It wasn’t until 2008 that the Australian prime minister said sorry for the plight of the stolen generation.
2007 – When the Sun, Moon and Wind Came to Dinner – 2nd place
Have you ever wondered why the Moon is so calming and beautiful and the Sun and wind are so disagreeable? Thinking of others is something we believe to be right. Sadly this doesn't occur to everyone. Join us through our journey of this traditional Indian tale, that will remind you that selfishness and greed obey no boundaries, and consequences can be severe.
2006 – Child in a Man’s War – 3rd place
Did you know around 100,000 children are fighting in wars in Africa and many of them never return to their homes? No child ever started a war but children fight and die in wars every day. There is always hope as long as we are listening and give these children a voice.
