Year 6 produced watercolour paintings to illustrate the book that Year R had written, 'That's My Duck.' The Year 6 children had choices to make about their art work: which duck species would they choose? Would they trace the initial shape or sketch it? Would they use a realistic and natural colour palette or something more stylised? They practised watercolour techniques, such as painting wet on wet, wet on dry and dry brushing, as well as using different sized brushes, before starting the illustrations. All children produced at least one water colour duck and they chose their best attempt to be used for the book.
Children in Year R had been taking part in an enquiry all about ducks and chickens. They read books and watched documentaries on ducks, then gathered all the facts they had learned. After reading the original version of 'That’s Not My Duck,' Year R decided that their facts were better, so they chose to write their own version, with a little help from Year 6 for the illustrations.
In Year 1, the children explored the traditional tale of 'The Gingerbread Man.'
After thoroughly revisiting the story through drama sessions and sequencing, they were inspired to create their own unique versions. They reimagined the setting and introduced new characters for the gingerbread man to encounter along the way.
The children worked hard to publish their stories, complete with illustrations, and proudly shared their imaginative tales with other year groups.
Year 5's work about brent geese, created as a part of a module called Migration.
