“Always watch where you are going. Otherwise, you may step on a piece of the Forest that was left out by mistake.” Pooh’s Little Instruction Book.
At Wicor children will often find themselves learning outside the classroom. The outdoors provides a fantastic, limitless set of resources enabling children to experience much of their learning at first hand – vital for so much of their learning. At Wicor we take this one step further and offer residential experiences for children every year from Year 1.
Being away from home for even one night can be a challenging experience for many children, but in return the rewards can be enormous. Learning to be independent and finding out that they can stand on their own feet is hugely important for children and is part of learning those life skills and attitudes needed for adult life.
In their seven years with us, our children will have opportunities to take part in residential experiences on Portsdown Hill (Fort Purbrook), in the New Forest environmental centre at Minstead, and in the Hampshire Outdoor Education Centres at Tile Barn (New Forest), Runway’s End (Aldershot) and Argoed Lwyd (Welsh Mountain Centre in the Brecon Beacons). These visits are planned in such a way that the children build on their skills and experiences year on year as the challenges grow.
