"Music is a unique form of communication that can change the way we feel, think and act.”
Music is an integral part of every day life at Wicor Primary School, and not just in lesson times. Classes often sing together and listen to music. Many teachers use music in their classrooms to create a calm atmosphere, to accompany timed activities or as a shared experience.
Aims of Music
We encourage our children to experience music in many and varied ways: listening and responding; creating and composing; performing to others. As they do this, our aims are that they:
understand and appreciate a wide variety of music from different times, cultures and styles
listen with empathy to the music made by others
develop skills that will enable them to make their own music
develop life skills such as listening, self-confidence, creativity, concentration, perseverance and sensitivity towards others
We have a very well equipped music studio with class sets of keyboards, ukuleles, samba instruments and African drums, plus a varied selection of percussion instruments. The children are taught to look after the instruments, but are also encouraged to make full use of them.
A high proportion of Wicor Primary School pupils pay for music lessons to enable them to learn to play specific instruments in small groups during the school day. We have a team of gifted and dedicated music teachers who teach Clarinet, Fife, Flute, Guitar, Keyboard and Violin.
As well as children having regular singing lessons during the school day we offer additional after school in the form of our school choir, VoxRox.
Wicor Voices CDs
We have produced several of our very own CDs of music performed by all the children in the school, including VoxRox, and sometimes even the staff. Below are links for you to listen to highlights from our previous 4 CDs.
